RESPECT YOUR FELLOW EDUCATORS

As I read the note all I could think of was Professor Snow saying something to the affect, "...they will put kids in your class because they need a class..."  or better"...they will take your class because they figure it is an eay A..."  That smirk on his face pretty indicative of my feelings again as I read the note wondering how am I going to respond.  This was the second time and on both occassions I showed my mentor.  We both gazed in total disbelief but yet we knew it happens because this is how our peers view us, view it.  It might not have been intentional because it has always been accepted and not argued so she was just continuing with the flow of feelings everyone has had on the content area.  It hurts tremendously becuase my content area allows much more expression, much more thought, planning, mapping.  It never ceases to amaze me when you read something that makes your adrenaline reach uber velocity words seem to jump out at you, dance in your mind and grab it for all its worth.  The first note was given to me in the midst of parent/teacher conference week and the second just recently.  "Can these students finish my test in your class"  read to me "Your class is not important, mine is".  There was no dialogue before this request.  The note was on a post-it, plain and simple.  I felt like Audrey Hepburn's world know Eliza transformation but just the opposite.  The Cockney was coming out but I choose to take the aristocratic route and communicate.  My fellow teachers must know how important my content area is.  It is my life.  I love it.  Through one communication I believe a  little light was shinning through but we will see...we will see.
